Dr.
Garen
Karapetyan (class'97) was born in Yerevan; grew up in Moscow;
lived in Greece; was schooled in Cyprus; studied Economics
(BA) in England,
and is now in Wales, where he has recently completed and
successfully defended his PhD in International Politics and
Political Philosophy (Department
of International Politics
- University of Wales, Aberystwyth).
Garen's
research interests include State-reification; Simulacral
constitution of political Reality; Existential
Psychoanalysis and Analytic of Finitude; Anarchism;
contemporary continental philosophy; phenomenology;
hermeneutics; post-anarchist
thought;
post-metaphysical, post-positivist and psychoanalytic
approaches to Sovereignty and State-fetishism
Garen's
main influences are Guy
Debord
and Internationale
Situationniste
,
Stirner,
Baudrillard,
Lyotard, Deleuze, Foucault,
Sartre, classical Anarchist
thinkers,
obviously Nietzsche and the
Davedevils of Sassoun,
as well as many activist experiences, including, the student
revolt in Melkonian Educational Institute in 1996.
Garen
was nearly expelled from the MEI in 1996, but was eventually
allowed to graduate due to his achievements in arts, and
an outstanding academic performance.
