TO OUR WELL KNOWN MELKONIAN GRADUATES
On the 15th of March the AGBU made their final decision regarding the future of Melkonian. The news was not good as they decided that the school will close in the summer of 2005. The AGBU said that the school will close because it doesn’t fulfil its mission, there aren’t enough students, and the Melkonian graduates don’t have the high educational standards they should. This is a big insult for everybody, most of all for the teachers and the graduates of Melkonian. The teachers have already taken action to prove that this is not true. Some of them are strongly resisting the closure of Melkonian. But what are the others, the younger Melkonian graduates doing? The ones who are not members of the Alumni? What have you been doing Melkonian graduates? Where are you? We haven’t heard enough from you, telling us to continue our fight! Are you really interested about what is going on here, or are you just leaving everything to us? You lived here too! You know us! We lived like brothers and sisters together, but what are you doing to help us? We are alone, enclosed behind the gates of the school. Our actions can only take place in the school. You are free to go wherever you want, find contacts. You have access to more areas than we do! We have seen that people who don’t do anything to save Melkonian, are blaming the people who are fighting alone! Will you stop fighting each other, and think for a minute what you can do to help us before it’s too late? And as I said before, you have also been attacked. They say that your educational standards are not high! Are you going to let them continue believing such a statement, when it is not true? Prove to them that you, the Melkonian graduates, have entered the best universities, and that you are among the best in your class, because of the education you gained in Melkonian. And also, prove to us, that we are not alone! That we have your support, and you are also taking action to help us! You still have time! It is not too late! But be quick before things get worse! Your help is important to us! Elli Semerdjian, 5th form (Greece)
